MONSOON WIFE - DVD - 91 Minutes -Drama

“Monsoon Wife” is a new film from Marlin Darrah.   It’s an uncompromising drama about four lost Americans, entangled in a web of love, deceit and redemption in modern-day Cambodia.  American Thomas McIntrye has come to Cambodia to escape his past.  There he falls in love with a beautiful woman with a disturbing secret.  But when an old friend hires Thomas to take him on a tour through the underbelly of Cambodia’s pervasive sex and drug culture, Thomas must face his enemies and attempt to save himself and the woman he loves.  At its heart, “Monsoon Wife” is a love triangle set in an exotic and almost lawless land, where everything is for sale, including the people.

This is the first-ever American movie to be produced entirely in Cambodia.  Originally, filmmaker Darrah planned on shooting a feature-length documentary based on stories he’d heard involving Cambodia’s burgeoning human-trafficking trade.  The decision was made however to instead film a fictional love story and drama inspired by true stories of Cambodian prostitutes Darrah interviewed.  The movie is a cautionary tale about the young women that are bought and sold in the omnipresent sex industry in SE Asia, and the men that prey upon them.
